Tekken 6 (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PSP) is all over the news today! Here's another vid, and this time, it's my kind of video. This one's a montage of a few matchups, showing characters exchange combos. By combos, I mean real ones, not just plainly doing the ones you can find on the command list. Hope you guys like this one as much as I did.

PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe gets new island, new boss, more
When Q-Games president Dylan Cuthbert said the PSP version of PixelJunk Monsters would contain "50 more content", he wasn't kidding. For PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe they're cramming in content from Monsters, the Encore expansion pack, and the brand new Gati Gati Island.
The new island will have ten new stages, new enemies, and new music tracks. There will also be two new towers - the Gem Tower and the Trap Tower - that can be used in the classic stages and a new boss. Players can also go online via ad-hoc and infrastructure modes.
In lieu of Trophy support, PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe will instead have a "Medal Challenge" mode similar to the PS3's Trophy system. Getting Medals will net players access to unlockable videos, artwork, and the like.
PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe is due out this fall.

PSP homebrew logic game: Nim v0.02
How are you with numbers? While I'm not really fond of math, this homebrew game actually involves more of logic. PSP homebrew newcomer Indrora has released Nim for the PSP, his Lua-coded rendition of the classic logic game.
The mechanics of Nim are simple: it involves two players taking away a certain number of objects from a heap. Whoever ends up having to take the last piece in the pile loses.
The initial release of Nim was yesterday, but since then, Indrora has come up with an update for some bug fixes. Here's the version history:
- Initial Release (0.01)
- Its out there now! woohoo!
- Second Release (0.02)
- Found a big crash where for whatever reason, there was a really nasty hang when trying to exit when at endgame or about screen. Offending code was a simple while(pge.controls.presse d() == false) do pge.controls.update() end loop, just added "and pge.running()" to check for running state.
- Updated the graphics a tad. Now the main background is simpler and there's more information on the about(/help) screen.

Easter egg spotted: Cloud Strife in Battlestar Galactica's Caprica
RPG-icon-to-end-all-icons Cloud Strife is everywhere. From the original FF7 to Advent Children, Crisis Core and Dirge, and even in other spin-offs like Dissidia and Kingdom Hearts. Now he's on a live-action TV series - at least in the form of some cartoony poster in the background.
As seen in Battlestar Galactica's spin-off series, Caprica (which I've yet to watch btw - ooh, can't wait!), a familiar yet unmistakably-Cloudish figure appears as an Easter Egg. The pose is the same - the hair color, the asymmetric shoulder pad, the sword over the shoulder... and with a name like Storm, it doesn't take a Dr. Hojo to put two and two together and see it as a wink to the FF7 audience. (Storm... Cloud... Storm Cloud? Oy vey...)
Ah yes, gotta love Sundays - a chance to get some gaming culture fodder out in the open (screenshot from Joystiq):

Madden NFL 10 coverboys named
As with all covers of sports titles, Madden NFL 10 (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PSP, PC, PS2) gets to showcase the figurehead of what the sport is all about. This year, however, Madden NFL 10 gets not one, but two coverboys sharing the spotlight, and with the announcement from EA Sports, we finally know who they are.
Sharing the cover of Madden NFL 10 and perhaps the mythical Madden Curse is the Cardinals' wide receiver, Larry Fitzgerald and the Steelers safety Troy Polamalu. This would be the first time that two player would share the not-so-coveted cover, and Fitzgerald joins Shaun Alexander as one of only two players to be on both a Madden and an NCAA (for NCAA 2005) cover. EA believes they both represent the game's theme this year, which is fighting for every yard.
Just remember, it's an August 14 release for all the specified platforms.

Rumor: PSP PixelJunk Monsters this June?
"Honey, did you leave the heater on? I smell a rumor burning..."
Q-Games has been pretty tight-lipped about their PixelJunk Monsters project for the PSP. We know that it's slated for a release this year, but when exactly will that be? If a product listing on Play-Asia is to be believed, it could be arriving this June already.
While the PS3 (PSN) version is playable on the PSP via Remote Play, what makes the PSP version worth getting is the fact that it's got 50 more content than the PSN version. Pretty good deal, if you ask me. I just wish Q-Games would give us more updates on it (as well as their hopes of getting PixelJunk Eden on PSP too!).
Cross your fingers, tower defenders! We're bound to hear something official soon enough.

Dad beats six year old son for poor video game performance
Just when you think some people can't get any more pathetic, news like this pops up. 50-year old Terry Taulbee from East Price Hill, Cincinnati, is charged with beating his six-year-old son, all because the kid didn't play a video game well. Sheesh.
Taulbee is now being held at the Hamilton County jail, facing a domestic violence charge for hitting the kid on his lower back and buttocks, which left a large red hand mark, according to court records. The area was swollen, causing pain for the poor six-year-old. The victim s mother told police that Taulbee became upset when the boy didn t play well in a video game.
Other details regarding the incident still remain unknown, including what video game was being played, and why it mattered so much to Taulbee that it be played well. We'll keep you posted once we get updates.

Kojima asks: do you really want Zone of the Enders 3?
Hop onto those orbital frames: it's online petition time once again! Hideo Kojima and the rest of Kojima Productions wants to know how many ZoE fans out there really want to see a Zone of the Enders 3. Yes, the floor is now open for a ZoE3 whether it be on PS3 or PSP - Kojima and his team are interested in what you guys think.
This question was dropped during Kojima Studios' recent MGS Integral podcast. Most of the discussion revolved around their futuristic bash-'til-you-crash robot brawler title - with the big question underlying the whole conversation: "How many people really want a Zone of the Enders sequel?"
And take note, they seemed to have oriented this question more to the casual gamers than the hardcore fans of the series. Understandable, because c'mon, I think it's pretty easy to guess what the hardcore fan would answer. (A resounding YES!!!)
MGS series art director Aki Saito ended the topic with this:
If there's so many people wanting to see Zone of the Enders, why not put the priority on top, a little further up, you know, but we just want to know.
So make yourself heard, guys! Sometimes a simple yes (multiplied a thousand fold by sheer number of supporters) can move mountains. Now go do your thing. Sign an online petition. Bombard your friends with Tweets. I dunno. Just go out there and spread the word!
Or, quite simply, you can just head to the via link and place a comment there! The team promises to read your feedback too.

QuickJump QuickPeek 68: Of the coolest Fever ever, losing physical media, warranties, compatibilities, and that break in the glass ceiling
It's a hectic one, am warning you now. Introductions will be short cos the rest that goes on beyond this borderline is all jam PACKED.
See for yourself (told ya it's gonna be short).
A terribly exciting week for the PSP (and by terrible, I mean GREAT!), with more promised games for the neglected handheld to come our way soon. And do take note that when these games arrive, they won't necessarily be arriving with UMDs. Just ask them Patapons.
In as much as it was exciting, it was also... weird and shocking. Last week, we had news of Ecstasy drugs poppin' up (pardon the pun) within a GTA manual. This week, it's porn and guns with the PSP. Ohmy...

The party does not end with the gaming side of PSP. Things are definitely looking up, and guess who's laughing now. It's all thanks to a breakthrough in the PSP homebrew dev front via the Laughing Man TIFF exploit. PSP-3000, let's see how tough a nut to crack you are now.

Third-party exclusives are dead. It's all first-party now. Oh, and no, they don't have to go whipping out their cheque books to get good title exclusives.
Meow! That was Sony giving a little piece of their mind in the still-ongoing console war with Microsoft. Oh, but these two make our lives just a tad bit more eventful, yes?
More game (installment) news here, from parts two, to threes, all the way to thirteens. And what's this? Somebody's painting the town silver...

Microsoft took on the role of the responsible mega-corporation this week as it promised to give out an extension for all those affected by the E74 error on their Xbox 360 console.
But that doesn't mean they don't have any fighting words to spare, though, as they take yet another swipe at their beloved Sony, saying that there's no more console war in the U.S. "That is soooooo over... By the way, our next stop is Europe."

The old: the music may be decades old but the most successful band in history charges into the gaming world, showing us its box art and its bundle.
As for the new, Nintendo's fancy new controller is not looking back - you're gonna have to get the new games if you want to make full use of Wii MotionPlus since Nintendo won't add support for older games. Meanwhile, Nintendo is looking forward to coming months, where they expect the hardware sales that they've enjoyed for a long time.

Industry News:
It was a week of data and figures, with corpo heads munching on their fingernails in nervous anticipation of their grades the past month. But of course they have to keep their poker face on, and if need be, be ready to refute any data that might otherwise go against their preferred standing. Yes, even if that data is conclusive.
Early on in the week, this Sales Data race kicked off with a prediction from -- who else -- Michael Pachter. EEDAR also chipped in their forecast, calling out a surge in PS3 sales, which will result in figures that catch up to that of the Xbox 360s. The Wii, on the other hand, seems to have recovered from its saturation of the market, and is now said to be "balancing out".
Link: Pachter, EEDAR predict March console sales: PS3 catching up to 360, Wii balancing out
As the week progressed, the numbers finally rolled out. NPD released their figures for both the March hardware and software sales, and revealed that there is a universal dip of sales across the board. Because the numbers were pretty... dismal in the hardware section, Sony and Nintendo (as they are all wont to do) chose to focus instead on the software sales, eagerly bannering their exclusive titles perched on the top list.

And the numbers aren't over yet, no siree. Media Create later on released the sales figures for Japanese hardware and software, with surprising results. The PSP outsells the DSi for the week of April 6th! That's definitely a cause for a celebration, wouldn't you say?
Link: Media Create Japanese hardware and software sales for 04/06 to 04/12: console sales plummet, PSP outsells DSi
And Sony is not the only one celebrating this week: ESA sent out a press release proclaiming their joy over the guilty verdict on the Pirate Bay case. Pirates beware. Argh!
Link: ESA does the happy dance for Pirate Bay guilty verdict
In the meantime, we've got more legislation proposals with the aim of curbing the influence of video games on the children. This week's brilliant idea includes a California proposal that will limit the kids' gaming time in the day care facilities. Oh, and it would be preferred if the games would be those that would motivate the children to move about and get fit. Wii Fit sales are expected to soar if this gets passed, I reckon.

QJ Front Page:
It was a really hectic week for us, and unfortunately, we had to move back the date of the launch of our Frag'em Up contest due to -- you guessed it! -- technical difficulties. Damn, now I know better than to diss companies who push their games back. Karma's a b .

Whew, that was sure jampacked, wasn't it? Now, before we say adieu, allow me to wax sentimental first on a trend that is inevitable: digital media.
When word first started circulating that Sony will be going the way of digital media and getting rid of the UMD format, reactions were mixed, with some pledging undying love and allegiance to the UMD, while some welcomed it as a necessary and expected evolution of the industry.
But now that it's actually upon us, with the one-eyed warriors of Patapon 2 leading the way, we'd have to ask: are we really ready now to let go of physical media for pure downloadables? Actually, it's not just for the games industry. This is also an issue that is pervading the territorial bubbles of music and film/TV industries (although this would probably be the last to get affected).
I don't know about you, but there is something comforting with having a physical media to hold on to. I liked vinyl records for the sheer vintageness of it. I like CDs, I liked my GameBoy cartridges, I like seeing rows and rows on shelves upon shelves of DVD collections... I like seeing what is there.
I guess I prefer it to files because the tangibility of these items make it seem more... real, more actual. But again, that's just me, waxing sentimental. You're free to defend your own preferred medium -- not that there's a contest to begin with.
But fans, let me just say this: hang on to your UMDs -- looks like they're gonna be "vintageware" soon.
Thanks for keeping it here with us on QuickJump QuickPeek. There'll be more next week -- need I say more?
