Nintendo tops worldwide hardware charts, SoulCalibur IV for software, August 1 week

We're about to enter the final quarter of the year, and it should be interesting to take note how our favored platforms and games are faring in terms of sales.

VG Chartz has released their worldwide hardware and software chart for the week ending August 1, 2008, and it's clear that Nintendo is still laughing their merry way to the banks. Yes, both Nintendo's platforms, the DS and the Wii, still lead the hardware pack, with 552, 941 and 326, 075 units sold respectively. That translates to a 5 increase in the sales of the DS Lite, while the Wii dropped a -14 .

As for the top 15 softwares,Namco Bandai's Soul Calibur Xbox 360 version reigns supreme, with its PlayStation 3 version standing close by at the third spot. Phantasy Star Portable (PSP) snuggles in nicely at second place, while Wii titles Sports and Fit cling on to the fourth and fifth place. Nintendogs is still holding on until now at the 15th place.
