E3's future is looking grim. LucasArts, home of the Jedi franchises and more besides, has decided not to go to the event this year after all, explaining that there's "too much noise" surrounding it, referring to to the bad publicity the event's been getting lately.
Last month, LucasArts had left E3's host group, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), along with a number of other publishers for reasons that are still unclear (although there are strong ideas of what's happening behind the scenes).
When it left the ESA, LucasArts had announced that they will still be participating at E3, presumably to "support the ESA's mission in the industry." Now that they have declined to participate, it might be a while before we hear anything out of the upcoming Star Wars games.
Some of the games they have in development that we'd have loved to hear from are Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 3, Star Wars Battlefront 3, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PSP, DS).
In case you were were also worried about the state of these games following the layoffs LucasArts recently went through, the studio also remarked that internal development of projects is still continuing. Outside sources also confirm that the layoffs did not affect game development.
